With this being BLACK FRIDAY weekend coming up.....I'm shopping for some supplies
for my painter............

Anybody familiar with MIRKA IRIDIUM 2.75" PSA SANDING ROLLS
60' x 80 grit sticky back $42

3M Cubitron doesnt come in sticky back, only Hook It and quite expensive

Just want some education on what other GOOD alternatives are there ???

How about Dura Gold (Colten D said it was too sticky and would come off your block cleanly)

And what about the LINEAR Blocks Private Label Paper on sale this weekend

Dura Gold is junk IMO. Mirka is OK. Not great but works alright. I know nothing about the Linear paper. For nearly all my sanding except for some of the color sanding paper, I am using Sunmight. Half the price of 3M and performs as good if not better is some cases. Check ebay or google Sunmight

2X "Dura Gold is junk," and it leaves a stick mess on polycarbonate.
I've been diving deep into learning about sandpaper.
Stay tuned for possible Black Diamond news . . .

It's very good paper. Whether it's gold or the green film the actual abrasive is the same. It cuts and lasts. Better than 3M IMO. Much better. I was using only 3M, once I switched to Sunmight, no way I am going back. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Much better product than MIRKA. Do a search here on the forum for Sunmight. Lot of us like it.
Another nice thing about Sunmight is that the paper never leaves residue on your block.

Mirka lasts half as long as 3M, and Sunmight is better.
and mirka lasts three times longer than horrible fright lol. on this subject, i always wondered what is it that makes some last longer then others?
i did pick up some HF 320 not long ago cuz its cheap and available........its also almost useless. clogs immediately. so why is that?

It’s the abrasive used and how it’s adhered to the paper.

A test for good paper is to make a crease in it and see if it cracks at the crease.

Open coat vrs closed. Open can be cleaned with a red scotch brite pad before it clogs, to remove particles and help it last longer. I just ordered 4 rolls of Gold from National Tool Warehouse on their BF sale. Good price with free shipping, but now I wish I had seen this thread first. The Gold has worked well for me, being a hobbyist and not production, so it will be OK.

Norton (made in Canada)--I think they call it "Gold Reserve" or something of that wording I use almost exclusively. I tried SunMight Gold Sheet roll and found it mediocre at best in 80X. For what I do--better life and use with Norton that the local jobber sells. I try to avoid any on-line sellers--watch out for getting old stock from some with dried out sticky backing or hardly any at all.

I've used a lot of Norton. Found it about on par with 3M in the grades I used. For 80 grit sheetroll the Sunmight green film is the best I've used. It really lasts, comes in 45 yard rolls for what 3M sells a 25 yard roll for. My only complaint about the Sunmight green film is that it is rather stiff, so using it for hand sanding crevices, nooks, etc is a little more difficult. I've been using the Sunmight green film in 80, 120, 150, 180, 220, sheetrolls. The Sunmight gold in 320, Sunmight wet 9x11 paper in 400, 600, and 800. All of it I have been pleased with. I've used a lot of different brands over the years and in terms of price and performance balance, I think Sunmight is the best I've used.

With the sheetrolls when you calculate cost per yard versus 3M Gold, price is like half or even less. Have not used it in the color sanding grits. Plan to try some of it soon.

you guys buy rolls for clip on? seems a pain to measure and cut.
I do and will never go back. It does not slide going laterally. More resistant to tearing and when using the back of the paper doesn't rub the rubber backing of my sanding block. That one I use (the old wooden one) with an aluminum plate and rubber interface has holes in the rubber. I find a lot longer life. I just attach at one end with the clip--bond it down and wrap the other end and tear off and secure the other clip.

mirka makes just a couple things that are decent and the rest imo is absolutely horrible especially their gold roll paper. little test i did awhile back......comparing apples to apples here. 6" discs on a da with a soft pad. i had 2 identical jobs i needed to sand with 320 that were in utech ss 24hrs old. both jobs sprayed side by side, exactly the same. 24 hours later i sanded one with mirka. job took me 6 mirka discs. did the other one with sunmight. took me 1 sunmight disc and when i was done the disc was still good so i saved it and did the next job with it as well and it did the whole thing. so what i did with one sunmight would have taken 12 mirka.
