I'm in the planning stages of repainting my car from its current silver (with a touch of purple that has mostly faded out over 25+ years) to a different silver. Here's what it currently looks like:
Admittedly, it is kind of interesting, mostly due to being unique. But I don't love the light purple secondary color.
I would like a "medium" shade of silver; not too light and not too dark. Ideally, it would have some interesting characteristics, like how it behaves in bright/dark lighting, or a secondary color. I've been keeping my eyes peeled, and have looked at lots of silvers online. Price will be a factor, but I am willing to pay more if it gets me something really interesting. Here are my top 5 picks at the moment:
BMW E46 M3 Silver Gray Metallic
This is a great shade, but I'm not sure it really pops or does anything interesting.
Ferrari Grigio Ferro
I can't tell if I really like the paint, or if I'm being affected by the cars/shapes its on!
Genesis Savile Silver
This one looks interesting to me, with some good changes in appearance depending on lighting.
Lexus Atomic Silver
This is the color that got all of this started. Every time I saw one of these cars drive by I was drawn in by the paint. What color is that? Is it silver? Is there a hint of bronze in there? Is it some sort of tan/beige? This paint varies so much depending on its surroundings and lighting. This would be my top pick, except I don't love the secondary shade of bronze/tan/beige. I don't want a beige car! But it's also the thing that makes the paint so interesting. Argh!
Mercedes Alubeam Silver
Similar to the Ferrari silver, I can't tell if I like it because it's a great shade, or because of the car its on. From what I have read, this was a special color offered by Mercedes, and was a very expensive option. Apparently it looks even better in person.
So, what do you think? Does the conservative shape/lines of my car affect what a good shade would be? I don't want the new paint to scream "Look at me, I've been repainted!". I want it to be relatively period correct and/or appropriate for the vehicle.
What's the most interesting shade of silver you've seen?
