When to use sealers?

I am getting ready to do a complete repaint. Have done the epoxy primer and build primers and all my block sanding. I was going to spray a sealer before my bc/cc and have had a few bodyshop friends tell me sealer is not needed. Please advise on the best way to get the best long lasting results. Going Black on a 90 vette if it makes any difference. Thanks in advance for your help.
 
A quality sealer ties it all together. Epoxy is your most durable route as it provides a major increase in adhesion and chip resistance. One thin coat is all that's needed. The advantages are clearly seen after a few years of use.
