Which Primers do I need for Bare Metal with Fiberglass?

Hi all!

I am fairly new to doing bodywork and spraying primers and sealers on my own cars. Im trying to save money by doing minor repairs, sealing, priming, filling, and blocking my own vehicles.

However, i am not real sure which SPI products to use.

Project 1:
Is a 1967 Mustang that i had painted two years ago. The hood was not prepped properly or bonded on the underside and i have been forced to cut into the filler that was used to bond the reinforcement to the hood, bond together with 3m panel bonding adhesive, sand down the entire underside and fill in probably 100 plus pin holes. I now have the fiberglass hood ready for sealer or primer, but i am not sure which i need. The bottom of the hood will be painted hot rod black instead of exterior color like it was previously.
Should i use sealer? Do i need a high build primer?

Project 2:
This is a 1967 Mustang Fastback that has the eleanor fiberglass kit installed.

-The decklid, rear flares, upper and lower scoops, rockers, front fenders, hood, and upper and lower nose are fiberglass while the unibody is obviously metal.

-The underside and interior are currently in some sort of green primer. I sanded the thin green primer off the exterior and it did not take much to remove it. I plan on having the underside, engine compartment, and interior sand blasted to remove the rest once the car is further along.

I have SPI epoxy primer for this car already, but i am not sure if it is ok to spray the fiberglass and the metal with this primer or if it is what i want to start with.

If it is ok, then i guess i dont need to worry about the other questions below

So, my questions are:

1. Should i spray a sealer on the fiberglass parts and bare metal first?
2. Would a high build primer be best to spray on the body since it has imperfections in the metal and i am going to be using filler?
3. Is rage gold extreme what i want to use for this project?
4. I did some work on the hood and sanded the edges of the scoop so they would be rounded. The gel coat is gone in these areas and the fiberglass is exposed. What should i seal these corners with?

Thanks!

SPI epoxy will work great for everything there you need to prime. It is the Swiss Army Knife of primers!

EDIT: Wait, it's probably not OK over the green primer you mention. Make sure all of that comes off.

Yes, the green primer will all be removed.

So, SPI epoxy over everything, then guide coat, then fill and sand, and finally more Epoxy primer before doing the second guide coat? Correct?

Sure, if your bodywork skills are really good, you may even attempt to use epoxy only throughout the process. But the build of epoxy is pretty limited, and most guys that do extensive body mods like you are doing will apply a higher build primer at some point in the process, usually after the steps you describe above.

SPI epoxy is undoubtable the best first layer of anything to apply to metal or fiberglass, as crash said it is the Swiss knife of primers :)
