White epoxy in watercraft engine bay

Hi all,
I picked up a 1993 Yamaha Superjet hull for cheap as my kids want to learn how to ride a standup jetski. It needs a handful of glass work and paint done to it. I am planning to use epoxy on the outside and was thinking SPI SS white. My question is what about the inside? I would like to paint it as well. Should I leave it white epoxy or top coat it too?
Thanks

Epoxy will be ideal, however getting that area perfectly clean will be very difficult. The oil will have soaked into the surface some.

I concur. I'm betting it will be impossible to completely remove every trace of oil.

I'd power wash it, scrubbing it down with dawn dish soap. Then I'd scuff up the old fiberglass and lay down another layer of fresh fiberglass/resin.

Once that's done, spray epoxy.

keep washing, rinsing and scrubbing with zep purple degreaser. that will break everything down and eventually come clean. the dawn would typically work but by the looks of it, you need something with a little more a$$. once its clean, sand it a little, wipe with acetone then epoxy it. you should topcoat the epoxy otherwise it will turn as yellow as it is right now. your on the right track with single stage. no base clear on this

Thats going to be a fun machine!...The 701cc motor is practically bullet proof. Rode an FX1 for many years. Lots of mods and aftermarket parts options were available when i was riding..IIRC, the Fx1,s were only made for 2 years, 1995 and 96...- Good luck
That hull/bilge where you wish to apply epoxy has had a ton of exposure to WD40 and 2 stroke oil- All of them have

Thanks guys, you all pretty much confirmed my plan. It is dirty for sure, it sat in the kids parents backyard as you see it and was full of leaves. I just vacuumed it out and haven’t washed it yet. The inside surface is shiny, but dry to the touch and not a big oil slick. The bottom of the hull looks like it went over Niagara Falls, pretty hammered, couple of cracks, definitely needs some glass work. When all done should be a good beginner ski for the kids.

I had bought a 2013 Superjet brandy new. I loved that thing, but life gets in the way and a couple of moves and houses later….I’ll find another one for myself. My son just mentioned how he wished I never sold it so he could learn to ride so here I am now with this thing. Maybe I’ll start a thread for the hull work if anyone is interested in something different.
