You guys de nib base ??

I do if there are any, but seldom have to.
I always wipe the base off with a tack rag to see if I feel
anything, if I do I hit it with some real fine sandpaper or
a grey scuff pad and spray a little base over that area.
I also use a bright light to inspect it with.

Yes, when I do overalls that are a silver type color I will always do 2 coats of base, sand the entire panel down with a 1000 grit, clean and put 2 more coats of base down. Just a process that I use, doesn't make it right! I just found that I get a lot of nibs in the sealer stage and this has been the best method for me.

Note that in all cases, more base must be sprayed over the sanded base. In the case of fine metallics, you have to be careful or you'll see the sanding marks.

Not all base is supposed to be sanded. Chromabase and S-W Ultra, for example, are two basecoats that the mfr. warns cannot be sanded.
