i went and bought these. i figured they were going to be a chinese knockoff but they are real 3m filters. this has to be a mistake because $15 is what one little box cost not 1 case. oh well, get em while you can. someone will eventually catch on to this lol

Yup. That's why I took a picture of what I received. Bought 2 more cases after receiving the first case. Got 3 cases, so I should be good for a long while.

Remember that the activated charcoal in those respirators has a limited lifespan as well. You will need to replace the canisters as well as the prefilters in order to have some protection. The activated charcoal canisters only have a very limited lifespan. 24- 48 hours exposed to the environment. That's why it's important to seal them airtight when not in use.

I usually turn my old paint masks into sanding masks so I picked these up!
Good idea, I guess I'll get a box too because like you said, the disposable n95's just aren't comfortable. But I thought 3m made a cartridge body that would hold just the particle filter. If they do I can't find them anywhere.

yes they do. you can use your regular respirator body and they make p100 dust filter for them. they are pink discs. this is where i usually get my safety stuff from. pretty good prices.

yeah now if mission could find a deal like that on the cartridges i would be good to go. lol
I'm always lookin'. You folks will know soon after me.

Couldn't you use your expired charcoal cartridges and keep changing the particulate filter?

Edit: @DanMcG I think this is what you want. The 3M Filter adapter 603 if you want to use the 5N11 on it's own.

Thanks Jim, the ones you posted are what I use now, but would like to get some of the cartridge style, mainly for the price.

They do, but the paint masks I normally get you cant take those charcoal cartridge's off of.

ya I found my jobbers pricing on the replacement cartridge's are the same price as buying a whole new mask. Something about a nice clean mask just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Since we are discussing filters, I'd like to pose a question about isocyanate protection.
Upon further investigation, I do not have the proper charcoal cartridges. On the 3M site, I cannot find any statement that says "protection against isocyanates". Aside from having a fresh air system, which is the proper cartridge? TIA

The 6001 organic vapor cartridges

Thanks for that. I am using the 6001. To expand on that a little. It wouldn't hurt to use the higher numbers in the link I posted above to give extra protection against other harsh chemicals that might be around while painting? Is the numbering system progressive in that it includes the preceding number's filtering capabilities? Thanks again.

I talked to 3M tech support and emailed them. Only because I wanted know if there were options when I am searching for deals, not because I didn't trust Jim C. I've been here a short time and know what Jim states is money. That's indisputable. At times (most times), I like to know a little more for my own curiosity.

When I asked about the 6001, 6003 and 6006 cartridges with a 5N11 filter for isocyanates, here is the response I received: (the italics are mine)

3M recommends an organic vapor cartridge with particle filter for most isocyanate-based product applications. Depending on your specific application and use conditions, a 3M reusable half or full facepiece respirator with the 6001 OV Cartridge. 6003 OV/AG Cartridge or 6006 Multigas and Vapor Cartridge with 5N11 N95 Filter (and 501 Retainer) are possible options for you to consider.

Additionally, when I talked to tech support about the service life of the cartridges, he told me that there is no hard, fast rule on them once they are opened. I was told that if you change the cartridge when you start smelling fumes that no isocyanates have made it through yet and you are safe as long as you change the cartridge. He also said that it should be kept in a sealed bag when not in use, the reason being that if you have it sitting loose and for instance your car is emitting gas fumes, the cartridge is filtering them and shortening it's life.

The gentleman on the phone said he recommends the 60921, 60923 or the 60926 if you couldn't find 60921 or 60923. The 60926 being the expensive option. I told him I was spraying polyurethane.

So there are some of the options right from 3M. I hope you find this useful.
