68 el Camino Resto-Mod

I've only used the Rage Ultra (not counting Bondo 30 years ago) and I like it.
Just cracked open a fresh gallon, and if I need another on this project it will be a total fail!
The reviews on the 3M platinum at that link were good. I may try it on the C3 when I tackle it. At this rate that will be on my 70th birthday (I'm 60 now)

Well time is money, isn’t it? It doesn’t take much time savings per gallon to justify the difference. Plus savings in abrasives etc. Spent many years doing detailed engineering cost analyses, raw material cost is only one part of the analysis. But hey, it’s your time and money… ;)

Don
Honestly, I like the Platinum Filler. Didn't care for the Plus or Lightweight but this stuff seems to work just fine. Tried the Rage but didn't see enough difference to justify the price.

I was production manager for a couple of machine shops, so understand cost analysis quite well. When it comes to my garage and projects, I really prefer not knowing what it's actually costing me. LOL

I'm hoping to get my GTX done before I turn 68 in May.

Where you live, owning a classic car may be illegal soon.

I don't live in Kalifornia Komrad. ;)
I have to tell a Canada story, and I'm not bashing Canada, it is awesome!

5 years ago my riding buddy and I decided to ride our Harleys on a Canada loop.
We started in Olympia, Washington and then rode to Port Angeles and took the ferry to Vancouver, BC. Plan was to go to Whistler, then across to Lake Louise, down to Glacier National Park and then back home.
We pack tents and camping gear and camp on our trips.
First night outside of Vancouver we find a campground and check in. We ask the attendant "where can we go to get a six-pack?" He said "welcome to the land of the formerly free." "You can only buy beer at bars, not in stores." What??? Somehow we survived . . .

The coolest thing was from about Kamloops to Lake Louise, Canada Hwy 1 had 12 foot tall game fences (and game crossing bridges every so often) and it was so nice not to have to worry about a Moose or something jumping out to ruin the day!

We had been told that if we got pulled over for a traffic infraction, with a foreign drivers license, our vehicles would be impounded and it would be a huge hassle. So, we agreed to go the speed limit and not risk it. That was a "death defying act!" We were being passed, aggressively, by everything on the road. We changed the plan and "went with the flow."

All told, it was an awesome and memorable trip through some of the most beautiful country on the planet. And everyone we met were as friendly and welcoming as you could ask for.

Ha, car impounded. I think you happened to stumble on the only Canadian that didn't know jack.
Sounds like my kinda luck.

I hope to get out that way when I retire.

I don't know how many of you guys use splines when spreading filler, but you would be surprised at how much sanding it saves.

Also, I have been using the 01131 platinum filler lately and I really like it.

Which ones do you recommend? It seems there is an overwhelming selection and the cost seems high.

Thanks,
Don

Oh, I wayyy overpaid......I have a real problem with being bored at work and I can hear my debit card talking shit to me.....

But I got these and they have worked nice so far. IMO all of this stuff is so gimmicky, but these have saved me time a few times while doing large spreads.

I was doing pretty good on the Chevelle until the temps started dropping, but with the stuff coming in today and lasting until next week just pushses it back again, Oh boy!! Be 67 in May. Working on interior now...

As I said in another post, I've committed to a vinyl top.
I watched about 6 youtube videos and said "no way, I'm hiring someone who knows what they're doing."
Found a local guy, like 6 miles from me who is totally legit.
My "test" was "what glue do you use?" "Weldwood landau adhesive, nothing else." Test passed.
He came over and we talked through the process and he knows his stuff.
We agreed on what I needed to do.
I did it and the top is ready for vinyl. Filler work done and 2 good coats of epoxy.
Progress!
