Als Bedliner

I have never seen a two part lizard skin product or bedliner from them. Just the sound control & heat control (contains ceramic microspheres) both are water based acrylic. Also both can be used on the exterior typical of firewall engine side heat protection firewall interior sound protection. The home brew I think first started on hr forums quite some time ago.

I assumed there was a two part bedliner product from Lizzard Skin, but I believe you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out.

I've used the Lizard skin sound deadener and thought it to be inneffective compared to the dynamat products. I call it dynamat for ease but I've used the Fat Mat from ebay for years. The price is good, it sticks better, and I've never had a failure or tar smell. I like two layers of their thickest stuff and I'm happy.

The spray dampners just don't seem to cut it like the mat products.

For fun I told my wife that I was going to start making my own lizard skin. She replied. "Oh that's a great idea, remember that dynamat stuff you made". We got a good laugh at dinner, she will never let me forget anything stupid I've done. Good fun.

Brad, at least you can laugh at yourself and your own mistakes. I always enjoy a good laugh, even if its on myself. I have heard really good things about the Fat Max. Two layers? So you put the first layer down and then stick the next layer over the top of it? Isnt that like really thick to try and upholster or carpet?

My idea of the sprayable sound deadner is more of a protective coating to spray over epoxy but to still be covered with a product like Fat Man. I would consider it in areas where bedliner is overkill and only interior. The guy in the link I posted responded to my inquiry about how the home made lizzard skin had held up. He said its an exterior latex house paint that lasts for years on a house exposed to the elements. Went on to say its on the inside of a truck cab, why would it not last for the life of the truck? I do not think he understood why I would even question it. When you consider it will be covered by carpet and upholstery (in my case), it still might be an option for me. I honestly have not committed to it yet other than buying two gallons of microballoons.

I like two layers. Try it out on a firewall. Put one layer on and slap it with your hand. Then put another layer over the top and the slap really turns into a dense thud way beyond any bedliner or spray product can do. Two layers is still less than 1/8" and upholstery coverage isn't a problem. Two layer also gives two radiant barrier breaks with the aluminum. In fact, I've pretty much switched away from lizard skin with the two layers. Honestly haven't noticed anymore heat in the cockpit compared with lizard skin.

Last 59' cadillac limo I built for a customer to be driven in just had two layers of fat mat over epoxy and a layer of 3/8" jute with the foil barrier under the carpet, firewall, and ceiling. Unbelievable solid feel and cool interior even with black paint. Also lined the doors on the backside of the skin and as a layer under the door panel. Still use lizard skin some but not on every build. Depends on the job and whether I feel like masking up and spraying the interior which sometimes isn't practical.

are we going to start with the snake oils and junk from hr.com now ? you may want to do some research on latex products. house paint on sheet metal can promote rust and i have yet to see anything home brewed that worked. i come here to escape the bs on other sites . we try to keep it professional here .

I tried some water based body schutz a few years back from Wurth if I remember right, didn't like it much

Hey Shine, I have always thought you were very experienced and had lots of knowledge to share. Im sorry if I made you uncomfortable in the SPI forum. I certainly dont want to be the reason anyone leaves the forum. I will be careful what I post in the future so hopefully I do not degrade or compromise the integrity of the forum. I also apologize if my post introduced "BS" into the forum. That was not my intent. I will follow up with some research on latex products over sheet metal. Thanks for your input.

i have seen so much pure bs on the net that i actually dont visit many sites any more . the latex insulation is just one of them. the fake dynamat which is petroleum base roof flashing or shiny bubble wrap . the phony spi epoxy test , or the akzo noble rep with his bs story about spi and barry. then we get into ospho or holdtite . it just goes on and on . it starts slow then the next thing you know all the professionals have left and whats left is guessing games and google warrior. no offense but i have no interest in some one trying to reinvent the wheel nor do i care about 2nd-3rd line junk sold on the net. i have learned a lot here and that is why i come . i just do not want to see this sight go the way of some of the others.
didn't mean to bite but i have had my shots ....

I understand. I will not bring up any discussions on this forum not related directly to SPI products and how to use them. I appreciate all the help guys have given me here, including you.

If you use a latex paint product over scuffed epoxy then there's no corrosion worries, make sure the epoxy is fully cured though or adhesion will suffer

Ordered Al's Bedliner online last night. They have a 20% off coupon that expires today so I got it for $141.59 including the gun and rubber crumb. If you miss the 20% off coupon, there is a 10% code PBEA3. I have no idea who autoanything.com is but like a lot internet storefronts, it could be some guy in his mom's basement. But as long as I get my product that's fine with me.

Did you get the hopper gun and the spray can with the film that lets the coating peel off the hopper and gun parts after it dries?

I used autoanything for a few things 8-10 years ago. No problems. I think they're the typical drop shipper with no inventory.

Yes, that price included the hopper and rubber crumb.

No, the instructions say you can also clean it with any solvent when your done.

If you really want the Lecithin mold release, google CRC Lecithin Mold Release. Probably the same product here and the price may be better.

I can vouch for the the CRC, it's what I used over plywood to release our bedliner when I made the sprayed out samples.

mine was in a kit, product, hopper spray gun, and included a can of the mole release to clean the parts. If it had been included I probably would have used solvents too. If it works as slick as they show in the video, I might get more. I will try that Andy and compare prices. Thanks

it would be great if someone did an extra few pieces of sheet metal & did some abuse to see how it holds up when they spray.
