ceramic paint sealants

What do you guys think about ceramic paint sealants? Or synthetic paint type sealants? I have always used a carnuba based wax, but I know detail guys are claiming how great and how long the new coatings hold up. At the car dealer, Honda pushes a product called "Resist-All," and there are others that claim their sealants will protect the paint for years....thoughts?

Just my 2 cents worth, company has bought 3 new trucks this year and I will not take the truck if they put this crap on it and its not because they charge $300-800 dollars to do it.
Carnuba or nothing for me. Just my opinion.

I remember the sealant they use to put on cars. It was a poly sealant that use to , by their claim, protect the paint and if you had to do any repair you had to use a product called poly cracker and they would charge what Barry stated. If you didn't use the poly carcker any paint repair you would do would not stick. I don't know exactly if what you are asking about is anything like this but if it is I would not use it. Just keep up with regular washing and waxing as needed that way you can also keep an eye out for any issues and get them corrected before it get serious.

Like Barry said if it "seals" the paint, you don't want it. Paint needs to breathe in order to last. All those new car sealants are a scam. Just a way for the dealer to increase his profit margin.

I don't know what the product was called but the gm dealership I used to work at sold some type of paint protectant. avg. car was around $600. the guys in the detail shop who applied the product said it was a complete waste of money and only lasted about the same as a regular wax job. Its one of those services that they make a killing on and practically never have to warranty.

So, what about Meguiar's paint sealants and others? Use carnuba only?...How does paint breathe?

How long do solvents stay in paint? At some point is it same to seal with a modern paint sealant?

I have talked to a few guys that have had it done, and they have told me the results are amazing, They say the clean-up and maintenance after getting ceramic coating is really simple. They say they can basically just hose the car off and it is clean. One of the guys have had multiple cars done now.

However, it still scares me.. The ease of maintenance is appealing, but I am scared of the issues that may come with it.

I recently purchased a new vehicle and I have been tempted to have it done to help protect it, but I also don't like the idea of sealing the paint job so I haven't been able to bring myself to having it done.

??????????????
So!!!!!!!! do they also think this is really a ceramic coating??????????

Someone should coat half a hood on a beater car, do the other half traditionally, and see if anyone can tell the difference.

So the question is, when does paint stop breathing? Does it always breathe? At some point is it safe to use a paint sealant? Is carnuba the only safe product, or are modern technologies an advantage on well cured paint? Whether they are ceramic or some other modern product, is it a good idea? Can we prove they are good or bad?

I am under the impression that they think it is.. I have no clue what this stuff is, which is why I was apprehensive.. Sounds to good to be true = usually is.

I will just put this with ceramic clear, something to talk about but not much more.
Scams are us.

Yea, instead of asking if we can prove it do it yourself and report back use fresh and old paint and tell us now it compares to the stuff we know and trust.

greatest thing since lace panties and pop top beer. run out and do all your cars with it even the lawn mower . never paint again . even gets 3 mpg better .

Would be nice to have some scientific data, seems like we don't have any real definitive information for or against it.
