Epoxy primer

This may be a dumb question well, it is a dumb question but I want to verify TDS says I have to spray primer over my epoxy, but can I spray epoxy and then sand down with 800 or 600 wet sand, and then spray a basecoat over after the 24 hour.

Okay, I was just trying to make sure we were talking about the same product. As far as I know, the Tech Manual doesn't specifically say you have to put any more or different primer on top of SPI epoxy as long as you are inside the recoat window. So you can do your job the way you want to.

Yeah so I was just wondering if I can sand with 800 and then apply base coat over it after the 24 hour window

Just to be clear what the manual is saying. When it's out of the re-coat window then it is best practice (i.e. required) to sand with 180 then apply two more coats of epoxy over the initial epoxy before applying any other topcoat. The reason for this is because cured epoxy is so solvent resistant the subsequent topcoats get no "bite" from the solvent in them and adhesion can be an issue.

Okay gotcha.. so I need to reapply 2 coats and then I can put down my base coat

For clarification, the recoat window and curing window are two different things. Epoxy takes about 90 days to cure.

Yeah, when reading the TDS it says that I have a 24 hour window to spray basecoat over the epoxy without having to prime it or spray another coat of epoxy, but I just called SBI and they told me that I am still fine since I did not reduce my epoxy

That's without sanding, with sanding you get 7 days, though sooner is better imo.
