I want to create the "Best Sanding Blocks Ever"

You guys rock! :)

Good videos doing the V-Dub fender.
I left a review. hasn't shown up yet. Hope they don't axe it because I mentioned dura blocks in comparison. If they do I will leave another.

Congratulations Dean! I don't get on here as often as I like so just did some catching up & nabbed a 24" on presale. The squarebody will appreciate it, being a hack at this trade I will use any tool that improves the end product/ saves time.

It was there, but they pulled it down.
I made the conscious decision to never mention other brands in my marketing.

Yes….I compared them to brand “X” since I’ve seen this before.
I’m hopeful that it’s an indication of the threat Black Diamond poses to their market share.
I’m certainly very pleased with the products you’re providing.
Black Diamond….for the finest finish

Love your support of Black Diamond!
The owner/inventor of Durablocks actually called me and we had a great discussion. Heck of a nice guy.
We agreed it is a big market and no need to be negative about others folks stuff.
And we've both been trolled by another market participant, who is not a nice guy (and who will go unnamed) and had a good laugh about it.
I'm focused on creating great tools and providing great service. I believe that is enough.

Thanks Don. That may end up being the way to go. Still need more information.
I've looked into the "Made in USA" criteria. It is regulated by the FTC and there are requirements to meet, which is a good thing.
There is a "made in the usa with imported materials" classification that is possible.

The whole point of my post was to be transparent about the challenges and my intent.
I'm way late on this. Replacing "made" with "assembled" might ease your conscious a bit. Assembled in the USA.
Then again, you're not selling the molds. You're selling what's made in them here in the US.
For fear of sounding like a bumbling idiot...I'll say no more.

What is the perfect radius for a round sanding block? Of course it depends on the curve being sanded. Which can lead to needing a LOT of PVC/ABS pipes, pool noodles, dowels, etc.
What if there were an egg shaped block, specifically "Moss's egg" shape from Euclidean geometry?
Virtually unlimited radii . . .

I have worked with suppliers in China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Mexico along with US, Europe, and Canada. The key to quality is good supplier management, under which all can deliver equivalent quality imho.

Don
Yes. At the end of the day the quality we get is the quality we accept. As far as I know physics and chemistry are not affected by geographical borders. Regardless of where it is made, the product "Owner" sets the standard of quality.

Dean has proven that a quality product backed by top tier customer support speaks for itself, regardless of what the "Made in..." label says. THAT, is why I bought the blocks.

First off do you get a CAM card with this block, I would like a high lift race block ;)

I am on the fence... when I am blocking with a round block I tend rotate it as I sand to not have just one spot on the paper wearing and collecting all the dust.... this type of design will force you do only sand in one position and only be using one small area of the paper... Just the first thing that popped into my head when I thought about using it.

Quality is only regarded as "satisfactory" or "non-compliant" with whatever what-ever written metrics or standard is trying to be ascertained and whatever protocols are used to verify or measure against.

The OP of this thread, in his first post, would have been much better served by adding in a step between 4 and 5 as "prototype testing/ prototype evaluation" before ever making a production run.

I'm all for the "high lift race block!"

My thinking is that the egg shape will help get better surface contact, when sanding an inside curve, than a round block would (unless you have the perfectly matched radius . . .)
Here is my poor attempt to draw and explain it
