My new air setup

My trap at the compressor was Eliminated years ago and replaced with an 18 In downleg. Personally by my experience with
my system I have no issues whatsoever. I have had one filter installed alone for 5 or so years. I understand porch dog but have to speak about my own equipment that I have operated.this has been beat to death everywhere. Thanks for yor plethora of wisdom shine I think bite is understatement for you but I know there is more than one way to skin a cat. Tootles.

screw this. i'm damn tired of every time i say something i'm biting someone. i learned the hard way about oil vapor and thought the right thing to do was mention it. i dont personally give a damn any more what any one does.. i thought i left hr.com .

Shine, sorry that others have created an issue out of this. I started the thread with hopes of learning something which I did. Your last explanation was priceless. You explained WHY you have the filter 2 ft from compressor and it makes perfect sense.

When I retool this line, that is going to be a strong consideration.

Other folks are sharing what they have done but for everyone, I would appreciate a healthy debate. Just keep it at that alone. Readers can decide what info/ who's advice resonated with them most.

We NEED guys like Shine around here who have gone down the hard road with likely little advice that we so easily get here. It's likely taken him years and a lot of hard lessons to learn what he has freely shared here.

Thank you EVERYONE for the thought and input.

Well said Rustbuster.
I have a ton of respect for shines advice (i think everyone does) I think you may have hit the nail on the head with "gone down a hard road", but I'v also learned a lot from many others here that have earned my respect. Shine, maybe bondoskimmers compressor doesn't pass much oil, and he had a different experience? I know mine does pass too much oil......but heck, mine is a lowly Husky from HD :)
PS. I hate that compressor!

Barry was nice enough (as usual) to talk me through some minor gun adjustment issues. Can't say enough good about that kind of customer support. Haven't shot anything in 20+ years. Felt good to get back in it.

I did a bonehead move and painted backside of both hood and fender with a 1.8 tip gun yesterday. Barry kind of got a kick out of that :) today's spray was 1.4 Vaper gun from Northern.

I got orange peel but otherwise not too bad for a rookie again.

That fender looks like it turned out really good and the hood.

Hard to tell by picture as sometimes a camera will put orange peel where there is none.

Glad it all worked out.

One of the pics was showing the peel. I'll just block it tomorrow or later.

On a side note, compressor only kicked on once so while a very small job, Puma compressor has enough oomph to get it done. Rated at 13 scfm at 120 psi I think.

Got the base applied today. Pro Spray, thanks Chad!

How do you get little dust nibs out of base? Not much. But a little.

I have 2 buildings each with their own set-up, one has compressor at ground level, which I rent that building now, but it tended to draw a lot of moisture through the lines, until a refrigerated line cooler was installed by the guy that rents from me.

my other building has the air compressor in the basement. This system works really good.
out of the tank it goes about 5 feet to a drop, another 30' or so, then into a 80 gallon storage tank then another 30 to a T. the T goes down nearly to the floor, then the other end goes up to the ceiling on the main floor, So about 15' up and 5' drop down, once upstairs the air line goes all the way around the ceiling of the work area and back to it self, so that way it has equal air pressure at all drops, about 6 in the room, each with a drain at the bottom. then in the back of this room it t's to the booth room, which has the only filter on the system.

The upstairs drops are pretty much pointless to even crack open as the only time they ever get any moisture in them is if we have been sand blasting for a long time.

I guess the point is that the air in the basement is really cool which really helps cool the compressor and the lines, that by the time it reaches upstairs the moisture is out of the lines. I've never worked in a shop that has such moisture free lines.

I'm trying to work on another location, and I think i'm going to run compressor, then 30' to another 80 gallon storage tank I have, and use it as a big water trap, and then around the perimeter of the room with drops. I don't know if this system will work as well as the building i'm in now, but the storage tank in my basement does catch a lot of moisture.

I always keep a eye out for clean compressor tanks that people are just going to toss out.

Shot UV clear for the first time today, got a few runs on the fender as it's totally a new experience, not only shooting UV clear but shooting a clear coat with a HVLP gun. Last time I shot clear was out of my old Devilbis Siphon feed gun. Lots to learn yet but really like how it lays down, even in the hands of someone who hasn't done it in a long time. Shot with 1.4 Vaper from Northern.

Pics to follow for anyone that cares. Have to go shoot coat #2 in about 5 minutes.

Please show the pics when you get a chance. I find the work that is produced here from peoples home garages is amazing, really inspiring and makes me wish I was closer to popping a tin of SPI myself and getting stuck into it.

I got nasty big run in the 2nd coat clear on the fender. Will have to wet sand it out and reclear it. Got too close and had really bad lighting which made it extremely hard to see how I was applying it.

The Honda still needs more work but since both vehicles are daily drivers, I can only decommission them for a short time so didn't want to bite off whole car at once as I don't have the luxury of a 3rd vehicle.

Having fun maintaining my vehicles. I advertise my business with them so it's important to keep them looking good.
