Its been a while since I refinished a car and the model of my newest spray gun (Finishline 2) shows that. I am redoing a 74 Camaro BC/CC in an "oxygen tented" garage not a booth. I have a 60 gallon compressor 11.9cfm @90. I used the FLG 2 with the EZ liner system and gotten good results with SS and BC/CC jobs in the past, but in all cases I consider the gun just a method to lay an even amount of material to cut and buff, I have no illusions of getting a good out of the gun finish in my garage. I was going to reuse it but it needs some parts which are hard to find and expensive so I am looking to replace it.
Previously I used the 1.6 tip to shoot epoxy and k36, the 1.4 for SS or BC/CC. Now I would like to get a cheap gun for primer work and replace the FLG2 with something newer. Initially I was just going to get the latest finishline 4 the 670, its gotta be better than the 15 y/o 2 with its plastic tips, no? Anyway I found lots of critics, I assume many from people who do this for a living.
Considering I'm only looking for a gun for a single project, my compressor size and "booth" is there a better option out there around the same price point as the FLG-670 (finishline 4) ~$200? What about an LVLP gun like the Iwata W400 Bellaria? Would an LVLP work better with my compressor and the limited ventilation in my garage or stick with HVLP? Am I going to get talked into spending extra for an LPH400?
My search found limited comments on the Bellaria, mostly negative on the FLG4 and nobody looking to upgrade from an FLG-2. For fun I attached an image of my most recent garage job albeit it was over a decade ago and now lives in Switzerland.
