I know this is an old thread, but I would like to say I LOVE the flattening agent. This was my first time ever using a flattening agent, but it went quite well. I used 30% flattening agent mixed with the activated Universal clear and this is the "Sheen" I got for those also spraying for the first time. These pictures are 48 hours after spraying.

Settings: Sata 5000brp, 1.3 (actually 1.4 measured), 26psi, fluid 2-1/2 turns out, full fan, garage temp 76*F

We have used PPG 685 Matting Agent to successfully Flatten SPI Single Stage Black
that was used on my 70 Camaro Restoration (Core Support, Front Wheel Houses, Firewall
etc)
What other brand of Flattner have YOU used that is less expensive than PPG and still works
well, without issue....................

I'm using a very expensive system made by Standox, because I don't like the results I get with cheaper products or mix/match products. I wish that SPI would restart flattener production for professional use, but it's easy to understand why they don't.

We had zero problem using the PPG Matting Agent to Flatten the SPI SS Black into
still a very glossy Semi Gloss..................(I didnt take pics and parts are currently covered
up , not yet installed)

Curious why you wouldnt do the same .....

I see * * * * * sells a Flattening Agent at $80/Qt

Wow old thread. I'm just trying to figure out what wheels I was referring to earlier in this post.

I've been using XL satin clear as of lately, honestly been getting decent results. but only have done small parts and a engine compartment.

spi flattener was amazing as well as their matte clear as far as sprayability. it was very difficult to get it to tiger stripe. it gave a nice even finish every time. it worked better than any other flattener i have ever used for that reason HOWEVER the drawback was it would just kill the clearcoat. the matte clear would start turning cloudy in a short amount of time outside (6mos) then just get worse and worse. every job i did with it that was outside over a couple year span yielded the same results. luckily i didn't use it a ton and most of it was on house stuff like exterior entry doors but there were some bikes that were done. everything i ever did with it had to be redone with flattened universal clear using 890. i have stuff out there for years done that way and still looks great. something about what was in that spi flattener just wasn't good for longevity. stuff i kept indoors still looks fine. from a business standpoint, best thing they ever did was end it. its just a shame that it couldn't be corrected and replaced with something else.

i just happened to be on the website which i dont go on too often. i noticed that in the pricing list that the flattener was listed. is this something new or was it never taken off the list?
