Red Oxide is ordered and then just match, when I get it matched I will send a panel to you and rusty to review and then won't take me a week.

Update, I have the match within a shade of the Red Oxide Epoxy Primer (to dark) I have another type of oxide coming and that will be easy and will get the sample colors out to Bob and Rusty for approval.

Other exciting news on the epoxy, been in testing and if you thought the epoxy was great before standing up to the UV rays, you have not seen nothing yet, I have 20 new fenders coming to complete the final test and then will advise.

Also testing a new chemical for even more corrosion resistance in the epoxy, looks good, just figuring the exact amount so it does not change the gloss level.

All of these when done, you will not see any changes in how the epoxy acts or sprays. The best is going to get BESTER!!

Is bester a real word? too excited to use proper english.

Sounds good Barry. I would like to use it on a 67 Shelby GT500 we are painting since that is how Ford did it.

Thanks,
Rusty

This is great news! Everywhere I take my 1934 Chevy Street Rod, someone asks what kind of paint I used. It is SPI Epoxy. My plan eventually is to base-clear the car (I even have the UC already). This spring I plan to sand out some sanding scratches that I missed last year and give it another coat of epoxy.

Will the new epoxy be that much more UV resistant that I sould use the gallon of epoxy that I already have on other projects so I can put the new stuff on my car?

I'm going to paint the car when Barry starts making black base

Just use the epoxy you have, I'm undecided if the change will just be black or if it will be the gray and white also, this is going to increase my costs and I think it is only important in the black, as we have people using it for a flat black on rat rods and cuda hood stripes, etc.
I hope to be done with testing next week as we have just been swamped.

Barry,

I am using the black epoxy as a semi-gloss top coat. I guess it just doesn't matter that much since I'll probably paint over it eventually. Although, I do really like that semi-gloss look!

This just goes to show what kind of company SPI is. You guys take a top-notch product and try to find ways to make it even better. With the way most companies pinch pennies these days, I am very impressed with SPI.

Rusty and Bob, sprayed out cans of the "Red Oxide Epoxy Primer" is going out FedEx today, both should have Friday and if given the OK, I'm ready to make.
Also for a gm you can tint slightly with like a red tint, won't take much.

Cool, this is going to be a great addition to your product line.

:D Barry, I got the test panel in today and I would be willing to bet that it matches the Ford Red Oxide really well-it looks really nice! I don't have any Fords here to compare it to but Rusty will confirm. With some black added to it I'm sure the GM color will be easy to dial in. The last red oxide I used was really close to what you've designed and I had to mix it 50/50 with black to get it to match GM's color, GM's red oxide is more of a brown. This is going to work excellent. I can also see many future primered hotrods on the road with this stuff, greys and red oxides seem to be gaining in popularity for the rat rod crowd as well. I'll be stocking some as soon as it's available. You've got a winner IMO, Thanks for making it.

Thanks for the advice and help guys. I will start getting everything ready next week to package.
Part number 6630-4.

Bob, would not a dab of green get the color there?

Yeah, green would turn it to a brown shade, I'd have to play around with it and see. I think adding some black epoxy would be the simplest though if it works. I'll play around with it once it's available and post up some test panels once I figure out the match.

Looks like if no glitches, the red will be ready to ship Thursday or Friday part number 6630-4 quarts only to start and same price as other epoxy.

Any long term results in on how the epoxy holds up as a topcoat? I have a sudden itch to shoot my hotrod with this stuff so it will be all one color... no time to actually paint my own, lol!

Not real sure on the red yet as a UV soaking top coat, when finished testing the new formula should go head to head with any top coat or I should say a SS top coat.
The black is what I'm most interested in extending, it already is bester then the cheap SS's but if we can make the epoxy go heat to head with a concept, now we have something.
