SL-C Super Light Kit Car

Ok, some decent progress over the weekend. I almost feel like this thread motivated my lazy ass some!

Lots of cutting...

Got both of the inner door jambs smoothed out. Although after further review of test fitting the door seals, I may need to build some up in some areas.... The inners and outers were seperating so I ground it all down and panel bonded it all first.

Had to slightly reshape this door:

Started on some of the bodywork..

Trying to get all the gaps uniform, but I have basically drawn a line in the sand on how far this is going to go.

I am really hoping I can get the doors and rear shell in primer next weekend. I have some vents I have to add in on the main body and front end still.

Thanks, its getting there!

I'll be honest though I am completely dreading the reassembly of this car after paint.

I mean I do hear voices, but I don't think they will help!

But yes, for sure. trying to assemble this pile of parts after paint alone would be a disaster. But the overall fitment of this car is just really bad. These aren't designed to be nice show cars IMO.

I bet it will be a neat car once done. But boy what a mess to build. I’d much rather do a full resto. Ive gotten into some pretty decent sized “custom” jobs in the past and I swear never again. At least not for what I charged then. Countless hours of labor and feeling like very little is getting accomplished.

Very nice work!! I've only seen fiberglass being done, never done it myself and never want too.
Did the louvers over the wheel wells come with the kit or did you make those? I like those, sets it off nice!!

He bought those separately(not cheap) and I still need to make them functional.

There are a few different methods guys use to install them, some just bolt them up from the bottom and they peak through, but when I cut the hole the thickness of the fiberglass is so incredibly uneven that I thought a pocket with the on top would look cool with some nice machine screws.

Plus when people install them from the bottom the screws they use have to touch the actual paint and I always get nervous about hardware touching the paint and bubbling it.

This is definitely a job where I am doing my best to look 5 steps ahead when I commit to doing a task.

Here is a gem of a part. This carbon roof piece was $2000. Its basically just an overlay that gets glued to the actual roof. What you see in these pictures is exactly how it was when I picked it up from the shop.

They are claiming I cut it, cleared it and am now trying to return it, lol. This shop has been such a joy!

So I returned it to the shop. Normally I don't do part runs, but the build shop is like a mile from my house.

They are only willing to refund this guy $1000 because they claim I modified it.

What I think happened, is that the relationship fell apart and when he pulled the car from the shop they just tossed this part that someone else already cut and attempted to re-clear(glorious amounts of runs) in and attempted to off the part and saw an opportunity.

The part in general is complete garbage, the weave is terrible.

I know you're getting paid (atleast I hope you are) but, that air scoop is the car owners problem. You shouldn't have to be doing battle with anyone to rectify the issue.

The owner of the car should be suing the previous shop for derelict of duties.

I guess at this point, if you can't fix what has been done to it, let the car owner know he'll have to take a $1,000 loss on that scoop that's going to get ripped off the car when it see's it first 100mph run.

I honestly haven't been in any verbal contact with the shop. The owner is handling all of that. I simply returned the part to them and walked back out of the shop.

Long before I even got this car the shop owner had been dragging my name into disputes with the owner and I flat out told the owner of the car that I was not going to go back and fourth with this guy. What that shop did or did not do was none of my problems. I can only address the issues as I see them when I am doing my part.

Yes I am getting paid on this job, hell I even charge my kids to paint stuff for them!(kidding, well they do chores so maybe not!)

It sucks, but it is what it is. It's funny, I have had a few guys reach out about finishing their builds from this shop. I think the car owner had been talking to some others on facebook. I flat out told him I have zero interest in doing another one of these cars ever again.
