Is there any reason, besides user error, that this clear would be hard to buff after 15hrs air dried? There's a high likelihood I just didn't sand course grits out enough. I used slow hardener.

The longest I've waited was painted Friday and buffed Monday, but it didn't need much other than denibbing. It was noticeably harder than the normal next day, but I wouldn't call it hard to buff, even then. What grit did you start with?

i sand and buff all of it i spray. prob been through 15 gallons now. i sand and buff anywhere from 1-5 days after. i dont feel this clear buffs hard at all. i usually take it to 3000 grit. it doesnt buff as easy as universal but not too far off. the only thing that will make a clear hard to buff is spraying on a humid rainy day. the moisture in the air makes the clear cure rock hard...assuming it was all sanded correctly.

I went from 1000 up to 4k. Took almost 2 hours and it was a small item. I know it's not a product issue. I used wool first then used a couple foam then ended with a black foam.

I finish with 3000 da, wool pad with 3D ACA 500 until it looks finished, then 520 on a black foam pad. Two steps, even on black. If there are only 3000# scratches left, they should come out almost immediately with wool, even if the clear is hard. May be a combination of not getting the 1000# scratches all the way out and not spending enough time with the wool pad. I have had trouble in the past with 1000#, especially if I skipped straight to 1500#. Now, most of the time I just start with 1200#, or go over the 1000# with 1200# before 1500#.

Quick question can you do more than two coats of this clear in one session? . Was looking into it for motorcycle paint jobs for people who are always in a rush?

Hi Jake, Per the tech manual, this product is recommended for two coats only. To find the tech manual, go here and click the PDF:

If you want more buildup for scuff and buff I'd suggest you try one of Barry's other clears. I use Universal Clear, but one of the pros I'm sure will give you additional tips.

How exactly do you figure something like that out? What happens in that 20min that makes it ok and did you try this different ways and experience a failure?

i had no failures. i was just fighting the pinhead size bubbles. although most of those were from spraying the clear at too low a psi. i also need to control and produce very little overspray where i am painting. in any case i had a few conversations with barry on the subject then it was a matter of me just trying different ways until i got something that worked. at the time the speed clear was really new and i guess i was the only one to ask....hey how about more coats. in the 20-30 min flash time the clear sets up enough where the coats arent all just flowing together. still well within a recoat window but your allowing a good flash and the clear will start to set before the next round.

I do it. I do a 4 coat session. It took a little figuring out to get it to work but it can be done. I do the 2 coats sprayed as the tech manual says then wait 20 min or so then do another 2 coats back to back like the first
Thank you for the information. I will be doing that for sure on the next bike paint job. Is the clarity still there on clear like the euro and univeral

yes clarity is still there. i am using the speed clear this way because i am spraying on a production line and the parts need to cure super quick. if you are painting a bike or there is no specific reason for you to use speed clear then i really do recommend you use another clear for this.

Only reason I was gonna use it because the customer would like parts right to go riding. I try to explain but they just don't understand

I sprayed a black tank with 2 coats of speed clear. Sanded with 1000 after about an hour, applied decals and put 2 more coats. I love the stuff for parts and pieces.
Totally forgot about doing it that way for doing graphics and decals.
