tape

I believe the yellow is only in 3/4 and 1-1/2. Maybe 2 inch. I use the blue fineline for anything smaller.

3M still makes the original tan 233 that all the old guys grew up on,it has a solvent based adhesive and the green has a waterbased adhesive. On a high humid day the green can be a challenge to work with. You could also check out the norton/carborundum premium tape,it is beige, sticks good and easy to tear, basically a copy of the old 3m.I have found the american pg-27 has very little crepe,is hard to corner and also tough to tear.

I have just special ordered the tan crepe 3m. As Jason says they still make it. Won't use the green. Gar-baghe.

Also had some good luck with the autographix tape that tcpglobal sells. Very nice.

I used a couple rolls of the Norton when the local jobber had it on sale. It seemed to be fine. One thing I noticed... The adhesive had an odd smell, almost like potpourri?

The yellow 3M is cheaper than green and works fine until you get it good and wet.

Anyone tried Filmtech Automotive Grade Masking Tape? Says its made in the USA and claims to leave "perfect paint lines every time." Also priced just under the American Tape.

is the discussion for basic masking or fineline graphics...or both? i use green with no problems (i like how i can follow curves with it) and use the tan stuff at a woodshop im working at...whats up with frog tape? hear it gives a sharper line or is it just for housepainting?

Frog tape is wild stuff, I've never used anything that leaves as crisp a line as it, but that's for house painting, I have a bunch and might just try it when I lay down the epoxy on my upcoming repair project. Frogtape currently works with water based paints as it's treated with a chemical similar to what's in diapers and it soaks up a ton of moisture without letting it get onto the work surface.

I even personally know the guy that invented it FWIW. When you get sued by 3M and don't lose, you have a good product! It will be interesting to see how it would work in auto body situation.

I think it would turn to snot with the solvents...i would test it first. I also have used frog tape for commercial painting with water based acrylic latex paints not eith urethanes. There are specialty automotive tapes 3m fineline etc. I personally would use those.

i threw all the green crap i had away. too much aggravation.
i like fine line and have used it for years.
i do not use household products on cars so frog tape is out.
