Tips on masking

I'm getting ready to paint the shell of my 72 Camaro and I'm wondering if anyone can share some tips on masking the car. I know it takes time and skill to do a good job.

I love the job that "jtfx6552" did on his mustang:

My biggest question is how you mask the trunk and door on the inside edge of the vehicle while being on the outside? I have the front and rear glass in my car and I know I can mask the one door from the inside of the car but I'm not sure how to get a nice tight fitting, well taped job.

Thanks, Steve

I use plastic that comes on a roll with tape already applied.
I use one about 3' wide, mask on the backside all around then when done
bunch the center together with a rubber band or tape.

OK that is just too ingenious and practical a solution JC, be careful you don't become known as Bubble Boy...

I tried this link and its no good. Anyone know where "Brians recipe" is?
The recipe is experience. The more you do it the better you get at it. Just like anything really.

In a nutshell what he is doing in those pics is backmasking the edges, taping sticky side up, forming an outline, and then laying plastic sheet on it and trimming the sheet after making complete contact with the tape along the edges. Sometimes then taping the top to ensure it is completely taped and no open areas. (no leaks) The tape in the middle is to support the sheet. It is also laid sticky side up. Study the pics some, it'll become clearer.

It's a quicker and cleaner may to mask big openings, as opposed to using paper. Although it can be done using paper but takes longer to do so.
