UN reduced epoxy

I'm almost ready to spray base, Doing my final blocking now. Is it ok to spray unreduced epoxy over blocked 2k before base? What does the reducer do to help it as a sealer?

So could I spray 1 coat, and sand it with 400 before base instead of reducing?

I'm sure others can provide more info on this, but that would be fine in my opinion. Keep in mind, base should always be applied to very fresh epoxy, sanded or not.

What grit is your 2k sanded to right now?

400. I was thinking I'd lay down the epoxy, sand it the next morning, then proceed to spraying color that afternoon.

a reduced coat of epoxy works best. no scratches to deal with.

This is best right here^^^^^^.. Use a reduced coat and dont worry about spraying full strength and then sanding..

I thought maybe you where trying to fill some scratches with a full coat of epoxy. If you're up to 400 already, ruduce, and go for it.

I don't have any reducer. I didn't want to buy a full gallon just to use a few ounces and let it sit. If thats the best thing, I will.

I hope Barry will chime in on this, I think I asked him this once and he said adhesion would
be just as good if I sanded it the next day verses a sealer coat painted over just an hour later.
If it is different, it's not much.
Either way, it will be better than what most do, just painting over 2K.
So spray it full strength, sand it the next day if you want a slick surface to base over.
I've done that many times, it's completely fine.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up.

My base is PPG DBU, that uses reactive reducer. I assume you can't use that? I never even considered mixing brands.

Does that me I could just go to the PPG jobber and buy whatever baseline urethane reducer they have and just use that?

Can you get SPI reducer, and then use it for your base too?

I would, but I need to order it, prob wont get it til wed or thurs. It would also be kind of a waste, I only need a shot glass full.

buy a Quart of PPG urethane reducer,870-885-895,same numbers as SPI reducer.

if you want to reduce it.
