Wanda

Anyone have any info or have used wanda paints? I'm aware they were bought by Akzo (sikkens) bus as i understand it isn't distributed by akzo like sikkens lesonal and utech. I was told that a quart, ready to spray, of red is about $40...compared to sikkens which is in the 120-150 range. Covers in 2-3 coats, supposedly. Never used it so i dont know...reason i ask is a local jobber is going to carry it.

ive used my fair share. its cheap(price). its uro.. and it uses the same toners as lesonal and sikkens. its damn good for a "budget" line... blows the enamel bases out the window.. its not a bad eco-choice.

Really? Same toners? I don't know much about it except for two Sikkens jobbers that put it in and the one got rid of it soon after.
All I know is what he was telling people but could that be reason they sell it differently?
Made in Brazil if I recall right.

i can get wanda in just about every color that lesonal or sikkens has.

True but you can get omni in about every color also.

I have seen enoug of this stuff really to know anything about it.

I think sik is talking about you can pull up any color out of the sikkens colormap book in all 4 brands in one system...sikkens lesonal wanda and utech. Not sure if it is like that for all the others...seems like it would be.

from what i'm hearing, wanda doesn't offer any sort of "lifetime" guarantee.....which is what all these big companies offer with a hefty price tag. I havent been doing this as long as a lot of you on here, but never had to envoke any sort of "lifetime guarantee" deal with sikkens. As i hear, it is like pulling teeth to get them to even follow that guarantee......just a sales pitch mostly. Don't think they do any sort of contracts either.

Still dont know what the deal is with akzo not distributing it themselves...i was told they couldn't....the store i use is owned by akzo....i guess with independant jobbers they can stock it along with other akzo stuff. i dunno...but i will have my hands on some of their base soon (which is all i care about) and do some sampling between it and sikkens..its a true polyester base they say. A gallon of sikkens silver toner is about $570...same toner in wanda is $170.

retail that is. rediculous right. wait till next jan when it all goes up %5 again. it never ends.

I get email weekly of price increases.
I use to try to stock up to beat the increases but now i get them so often i would need a warehouse to keep up..

its probably the very coarse metallic. they usually cost good money.

jeez toner price? can see that...qt of straight red toner is around that in sikkens i believe. someones gettin rich and it aint me!

just had a look at the color books for wanda, along with their color variance decks....EXACT replica of Sikkens decks and books. Same colors, same numbers.

thats what i was getting at.

havent tried any color yet, but according to those around that have used it so far, colormatch is perfect. some say even better than sikkens. If you've used sikkens for a while, and i think barry has mentioned this before, the old autobase was better at matching straight off the mix than the new autobase plus. they are saying the wandabase is matching like the old autobase. the color actually matches the variant cards. even the hard to match metallics and pearls.

i'll say this...bringing this stuff to town has got everyone on their toes. gave the jobber all of the spi info, hopefully he will carry it. there were a few around here that use to use it when napa store carried it.

Well i know ill drive that 20 min down there to get the SPI and may have to try that Wanda out also.

finally got my hands on some base. color is ford d3 red. did a sprayout of both wanda and sikkens on one of those crappy metal spray out cards. took both colors 5 coats to cover the black stripe.....kind of a sucky test because that black stripe just soaks up the paint and isn't really that good but it did take both of them the same amount. i'll do another with some white epoxy and black epoxy as the ground coat.

the wanda base sprays a little on the dry side..compared to sikkens which sprays real wet. color match on both were decent right off the mix..i did not mix either so its hard for me to say but considering its red and that the wanda is pretty close to sikkens is a good sign to me. however the sikkens is a LITTLE closer match to the car..but both need a slight tint to get it right for a panel job. on a blend the wanda would do just fine. both are a standard mix.

durability check in the next week or so.

so verdict is still out for me atleast.....one thing though......a quart of this red in wanda is $67 unreduced. a PINT of sikkens is $85 unreduced. so thats $170 a quart.
