What do others use for air hoses?

I'm interested in what others use for hoses in the booth for the spray gun and more so for the air supply. I mostly paint parts and pieces. The more stuff I have set up the more tangled the hoses get. I have more trouble with the light PVC hose that came with the SAS air pump than I do with the heavy rubber 3/8 hose for the gun. When I get a good hose mess going the PVC breathing hose folds over, pinches off my air suppy and I have to stop spraying to fix it, or suffocate:rolleyes:.
This has been going on for years yet I can walk and chew gum at the same time:p.
Here is a mild example:

I always thought that if I used an air supplied setup, I would clip or tape the hoses together for as much or their lengths as practical. Do you think that might be helpful?

I have a hose callled Flexzilla. I got it at Sears. It is super light and flexible. So atleast it lays flat on the floor.

I have a Flexzilla and used it on my last spray job a couple of weeks ago, its much easier to move around than a rubber hose and like strum says, its lighter.

since i only paint one or two a year i have one supply line which hangs on a belt. it t's and i have a 3 ft hose for the gun. i use a bullard hood with it. as for hose i try to buy the best there is but many have changed. i did learn one thing. if it is yellow hose don't buy it. every damn yellow hose i have ever bought would twist up like a rattler.

The Flexilla hose is good! I bought one a month ago, nice and flexible without much memory.

tractor supply has the best price on the flexzilla. may have to try one. my yellow Chinese hose is driving me nuts .

i just replaced mine in the booth with a tsunami.

Supposedly the best spray hose in the industry.....but they all say that. So far so good...havent used it in an all over walking around the car yet though. It seems to lay flat on the floor and doesn't coil as bad as others. It's still pretty stiff being new but i can see it getting more flexible with more use. Description says it has some sort of anti-static strip on it...who knows. Its pretty light also.

Just wish it wasnt purple! lol.....but it matches the tsunami filter in the booth so i guess thats ok?

Dont know what brand i had in there before......it was durable just coiled bad (not as bad as the cheap ones) and heavy. Wasnt like the yellow ones...i have those out in the shop and do decent out there.

i grabbed a new hose at northern a while back. cheap yellow chinese junk. coils up like a rattler and stiff as hell. have 2 to paint this summer so i need to get it replaced.

I'll have to take a look at that Flexilla at Sears and maybe try it for the air supply.
Years ago I tried to tape the gun and breathing hoses together and it didn't work for me. I think it was because I often have to put the gun in the stand and move around repositioning parts. I think it could work for some doing strictly car work though.
Every light PVC hose I've tried in the shop for general use (outside the painting) didn't last for shit. Not tough enough and it gets rough out there:D.
Thanks guys for the feedback.

I had a flexilla until I started to get flecks in my paint. Mr. Kives thought it was the hose deteriorating. I got a high quality, rubber hose and have had no problems since.

ive tried alot of different hoses. the polyurethane transparent ones are made well, last a long time and are super light BUT the loop up like crazy and catch on everything so i got rid of those. the cheap pvc ones like shine is talking about are really bad. you cant even use those things. i have tried about 10 different brands of rubber hoses. rubber ones dont loop up as much but are heavy and i havent found any that last even the good year ones. the good year black one i have so far hasn't dry rotted and split after 2 weeks like the 15 red ones i have bout over the past 3 years but the end bulged out after a month and i see its just waiting to burst. i have just about given up on air hoses. just went to a friend's shop and he has the yellow flexilla hose which seemed like a real nice quality hose. its lightweight and he is really happy with it. i will be trying one of those next. only airhose i have right now that is worth a crap is one i made from low psi aeroquip hose that i got when i worked at the vacht co. that thing is 10+ years old, used every day and still like new. i would make all my lines out of it but this one hose probably cost $300+.

I've had my best luck with devilbiss brand that the local jobber cuts to length. Heavy enough to stay on the floor and not flip up and hit everything like Jim mentioned. I bought a high dollar poly reinforced hose that I though was great. It was to light to stay on the floor and seemed to flip over and touch the rockers or such. Nice and lightweight but I'll take the heavy weight hose that stays put.

Put a hook in the wall near the floor to keep the hose low and it will help to keep it from lifting.

Hey Jeremy,
If the purple bothers you how about getting a color coordinated latex jumpsuit to replace your shoot suit? That way everything will fall in line and look right.

Update: I did get the Flexila hose from sears and used it for the fresh air line. About 7 months and it appears to be holding up well. I still make pretzels with the 2 hoses but at least the flexila doesn't kink over and cut off the air. The plastic smell took a while to go away but it wasn't that bad. If I step on it I know right away, can't breathe. Over all the flexila on the fresh air supply is an improvement and for now I'm going to leave the heavy rubber hose for the spray gun.

i have a 1/2 in 25 ft pvc hose that i love. trying to find a 50 ft for the booth. it does not coil or kink. it's yellow and came from northern. thats how i ended up with the chinese pos. didn't pay attention when i grabbed it. i dont mind the larger hose. i lay the hose out in the booth to follow my pattern. since i t off it at the belt it never interferes with spraying.

My dad bought a 35" flexzilla hose w/ reel for his work shop. He is very happy with it not coiling or kinking.
I was thinking about getting a flexzilla 50ft hose for painting, but now I think I will bypass it due to AAE's report and am going to get one of the purple tsunami hoses that Jeremy is using.

But first I got to get something done on my project before I need to think about painting, lol.

SOF, what's a purple tsunami hose? Tell me more. I'd be embarrASSED to tell how long I've been using the 35' rubber hose I use for the gun.
