What do others use for air hoses?

Have a few flexzilla lines and I love them, very easy to work with. Shop around for them some will have them cheaper then others.

The air hose looks interesting. Do you have any good sources for their equipment? I did a quick Yahoo and came up with one offering the 35' hose for $75.

I like the tsunami hose. pretty durable. it will still coil some but to cut down on that I have swivel connections off the wall and one on the gun. I only use the one on the gun when doing the big all overs but for normal use the one on the wall works good.

When I replace i'm going to get the green prevost. I think its kind of like the flexilla.

Sure does sound like the same material as flexzilla, rubber and pvc.

Better price too: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005LXGMA8/ref=asc_df_B005LXGMA82201348?smid=A49V9TC7GQB3A&tag=nextagusmp0423031-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B005LXGMA8

Is the 3/8 or 1/4 ID hose the best.? I am using 1/4 in my shop and it seems to do all I want to do. For paint which is best and why?

a spray gun is going to use way more air than a 1/4" line can supply. small air tools its fine

Thanks. I also read on the gun instructions it requires a minimum .315 id hose for correct volumn. Appreciate the response. Guess I should read first and ask questions later.

We use flexilla hoses at our repair shop. They are awesome for not tangling up and laying flat. As far as spraying paint, I couldn't tell you, just auto repair use.

i will second the flexilla hose. i will never buy another brand of hose again. those green ones are the way to go. very lightweight, dont really coil and they last forever,

They seem so weird to use after regular hoses. They are like a wet noodle, as close to not even being there as it gets.

I've replaced all my hoses in the shop with the flexillas. I still haven't had any feedback from anyone about using them in the paint booth.

But yea...only air hose I will ever recommend now.

I had one of those cheap "hydraulic" air hoses curl up and hit a freshly painted rocker. That was the end of it. Got the Flexzilla and never looked back.

What's the best size hose to buy for spraying? 3/8" or 1/2" ?

I hate to bring back an old thread, but I have the same question. I have a new 1/2 flexzilla 50ft hose and too be honest I think it may be too much for general use. I put my die grinder on it with high flow fittings, and boy did it wake up. The problem was I could not control the tool like I was use to. I never run the my grinders and cutoff wheels wide open. It would probably work great for impacts and maybe sanders. I don't like the bulkiness of the fitting at the end of the tool as well. Maybe I just need to give it some time and see if I can get use to it. I thought about using a swivel before the coupler, but it has 3/8 fittings.

Would the 1/2 hose be too much for an hvlp gun or would a 3/8 be better?

I use a 50-foot Flexzilla 1/2" hose with 3/8" T-style fittings for painting because air volume is key. To avoid having the big female quick connect right at the gun, I have a 3/8" Flexzilla whip that I screw to the gun fitting.

When Harbor Freight carried T-style couplers I bought a bunch and use those on all the hard line outlets in the garage. Since they quit carrying those couplers I've been upgrading my air tools to the V-style high volume couplers because the M-style male couplers work with the V-style female couplers (so I don't have to replace them all at once). For those who aren't up on the different style connectors (there are many more that I don't use), here are the three I use (T on the left, V in the middle and M on the right):

I am one of those weirdos who uses whips on all my air tools. I used to knock couplers off the tools when they were up close to the handle and that's a big chunk of metal to be flying around the car (or my head when I'm working under the car). I was told they took up too much room but I manage to get quite a few air tools in one 16"D x12"W x 9"H drawer in my 42" toolbox:

Bob, Excellent info. Thanks for the pics. I just ordered a flexzilla whip this morning for my air hammer. What size hose are you using for your general tools? I may just use this new 1/2 flexzilla for painting and purchase a 3/8 flexilla for my body work tools. I need to purchase a dedicated one for the booth anyway and this 1/2 one that I have is new. I like the whip idea on the paint gun.

Here is a pic of my general work tool setup. I turned the hand crank handle around on the left side. The door to the right has glass in it and I knew that I would bust the window with the handle. As of now I have the 1/2 hose on the reel.

As for my paint setup, I still need to finish it. I need to put a regulator on it and an air coupler. No reel over here. I just plan to hang the hose on the wall.

I use 3/8" hose for my air tools. I have a couple of cheap hose reels with the rubber hose that came with them. The 50-foot reel is mounted over the compressor and the 25-foot reel hangs from the ceiling at the opposite end of the garage. I have a 25-foot 3/8" Flexzilla hose coiled next to the garage door and a manual reel with 100-feet of 35-year-old hose on a trailer hitch mount so I can get air down to the workshop/shed at the back of the yard.

I also use that trailer hitch mount for my paint shaker. As long as I use it outside, there will never be an incident but as soon as I use it in the garage the contents of a can of paint will be slung across the garage with most of it landing on my fresh paint job.

The handiest addition to my air setup is a three-way coupler. I just connect the short whip to the air line and I can connect a DA, angle grinder and air file and pick up the one I need without having to disconnect one and connect another. It came with the restrictive couplers so I'll be swapping these out for V-type.
