Whats a good basecoat to use nowadays.

Almost ready for basecoat on my 56 f100 looking to do a nice clean dark blue almost black looking. Any recommendations on a good basecoat?

I've used a lot of PPG DBC over the years and frankly the cost of it is simply outrageous now. It isn't good enough IMO to justify the cost. I'm also tired of paying for Darryl Hollenbeck's and Charley Hutton's new paint booths, so I'm pretty much done using all things PPG.

Motobase and Wanda are both excellent choices and are relatively good values. Glasurit and Sikkens are both premium lines and really good. Standox, Metallux are also good choices. Personally I've used a lot of Glasurit over the years and it is top shelf stuff. As is Sikkens.

BASF/RM has some quality stuff as well but apart from Sikkens I'm not very familiar with it. Another base that I have quite a bit of experience with over the last few years is Cromax Mosaic. Very user friendly, applies nicely and cheaper than DBC.

I would steer away from waterbase basecoats and only use solvent B/C's if you are doing this in a non booth environment.

Yes, higher polyol like Spies, Standox, Debeers and SPI
Okay thank you. I'll probably end up with motobase for this complete resto of mine.
I bet those where some nice clean blues you made barry just like the rest of the basecoat you guys carry.
