WTB: budget beginner gun

Been having a friend help me with painting projects. I want to buy him an entry level budget gun. Something maybe like a Devilbiss FLG5 or an iwata gunsa, etc. Thanks.

I'd consider getting him a 3M performance gun. You can buy 1.2-2.0 heads for it. Its HVLP, so it needs some CFM behind it.

If you have a little time, you can sometimes find very good guns on Ebay that someone bought for a 1 time project, or they upgraded and just want to get something out of their old one. If you go that route, I would stick with brands you can get parts for if needed. The Gunsa is actually a very good gun in the $150-$200 range. I would stay away from the very cheap guns, as the quality control is not very good. Some of them spray nice, but I've seen some that are terrible. Plus the cheaper ones often waste much more product as overspray then they save in their price. I have a gun from CarWorx as a back-up back-up gun that I bought for $60. It sprays very nice, but I am always having trouble with the cup seal.
I've never used the 3M gun that AAE mentioned, but have sold several, and my customers that bought them, love them. I mostly deal with SATA, Iwata, & Tekna, but $400 - $1100 is where they're at.

I've never seen a good review of the Air Gunsa other than when it's being compared to something like a 15 buck HF gun. I've got an Iwata lph400, but there's a compatibility issue between me and that gun. Nothing wrong with the gun, but the requirement that you move it slower than I'm used to moving drives me nuts.

So, I bought an Iwata Bellaria 1.4 and I really like that gun. It was about $180 without the cup. The Bellaria has been replaced by the Kiwami within the last few months. Price is about the same, and from what I've read from people who have used both, they spray like identical guns. These are RP guns and need around 9.5 cfm.

Recently bought a Devilbiss FLG5, mostly out of curiosity to see if it really sprays as good as Gunman on YouTube claims. I was amazed that a gun at that price will lay down paint like it does. I prepped an old fender with SPI black epoxy and shot it with a couple coats of SPI black SS. It laid out like glass. Haven't tried it on anything like high solids clear as I'm pretty much a SS fan. Due to the current exchange rate of the GB pound to the dollar, the FLG5 can be bought from Spray Guns Direct in the UK for about $120 plus $20 shipping. It comes with a decent plastic cup. The gun is not marketed in the US by Devilbiss and I'd advise against buying from any US sellers as the description reads like it was written by someone whose native language isn't English. The FLG5 is also an RP gun and requires about 9.5 cfm.

I bought two Gunsas for primer. They sprayed OK. Problem with both of them was they both stripped the thread where the cup screws in after a relatively short time of fairly light usage.
