1963 Dodge Dart for the Wife....

Will be using some PTO time this week
:)
. 3 more good coats of clear and time to bask in the sun for a few days. Oodles of runs to sand out but that is better than dry spray..... The third coat I was not worried about the dust (natures pearl) since that coat will mostly be sanded off... Looks better in the photo so when it is finally finished and cut and buffed... wow.

I am understanding how critical the gun setup and temperature is 1/4 turn is the difference between perfect and runs. What a dipstick. I was target focused on spraying and was spraying the top of the quarter and did not even register the trunk was open. Ran along and the gun hit the trunk and stopped dead. Big old blob that melted through the one coat of UC under it and disturbed the damn metallic below it. Sigh. Oh well I’ve gotten good at fixing and blended that problem too over the last few weeks. This one is going to be end of me.

Lyle Lanes suggested I spread a bit of Icing Lite around it and sand it until the glaze is gone. Seems like a great idea I'm going to try. Also Barry is happier if it runs rather than dry sprays :)

Make sure the run has cured out fully before you sand it flat. If it's not fully cured and you sand it flat too quickly there is a chance it could ghost back on you. A hard lesson I learned first hand.

Ha ha, just sanded part of the hood so I failed you already. I knew there was a 95% chance I would need to redo the hood because of something else so I get anxious and wanted to see if wet sanding would take it out.... nope can still see it so need to do some base work on the hood and the spot on the top of the rear quarter... never again metallic without a real painting area.... too difficult working around Ma Nature and Father Metallic....

What do you guys think. We planed to make the raised center of the hood white pulled in about an inch from the body line with a small white pin stripe outlining it. Then a white convertible top and white boot. Would you do it?

Me, i'd wait. Color is beautiful & surely could be added later on.
You can get white paper & lay it on hood boot to visualize.

OK I vote no white on the hood. The natural light reflections on the raised section are enough. My opinion (and you know what they say about opinions ;)). Nice color and the base looks nice and even over the whole car.

I vote no on the white as well. Pink maybe, since it's a woman's car. JUST KIDDING! :p

The white convertible top will be striking enough and really show off that great looking blue!

Only for the wife would I struggle through a metallic color but I can see the light... A day of successes and I am feeling good about it....

Decided to use the rotational aspects of my setup to make the trunk and hood painting easier.... Sanded, more base to fix some weird spots and then 3 coats of UC over it. No metallic striping, no runs and no orange peel.... clearly did something wrong. Bake in the sun for a while then wet sand and the final 3 coats. The LH side is ready for the _final_ 3 coats of clear in the morning and the RH side is about 60% wet sanded and will get its final 3 coats on Sunday morning! It is looking amazing...

Ok 85F today, summer is around the corner..... This is a _hot_ color!
