Trying to be the best me, I can be
I know this is off topic but i figured many of you will have some advice for me. I'm not a hunter/outdoorsman so I don't belong to any of those forums where I could ask this.
There are a lot of Coyotes around here in my area (Southside VA)now. Never use to be any here but they are here now, They are on my property. Didn't realize this until a couple of days ago. My little dog who thinks she's 10 feet tall and bulletproof had gone off chasing/stalking something in the bottom below my house. Fresh snow so she was running all around. It was getting dark so I was getting worried. I walked down there calling her. Was shining my flashlight and saw a set of eyes near the edge of the field. Thought it was her so I kept calling. As I got closer I noticed four other sets of eyes and I realized that they were coyotes. Big ones too.
Yelled at them and tried to scare them off. Thought the worst that maybe they had gotten her. Turned out she was ok and farther up closer to my house. Thanked the Lord about that as you guys know how much I love my dogs.
So my question is what can I do about them? Talked to one neighbor who said you really can't do much. I think I know where their den is (on the edge of my property) how can I get at least this pack out of my area? Pick them off one at a time? Any other solution? I hate the idea of killing them but I hate the idea of one of them killing my little dog more. The den is a good ways from my home. Probably a 1/4 mile or so. So it's not like they are right in my backyard but they are close. And those suckers are pretty good size. I've got a Sig Sauer AR-15 so that would probably get the job done if I have to kill them. Little leery of venturing down to where their den is though.
Thoughts?
