Poor adhesion between basecoat and epoxy sealer

I can't imagine trying to spray that color ShopLine base over white sealer. Medium dark gray sealer would have saved that trip for another quart.

Yes, that was an issue. I wanted gray and black when I ordered the epoxy, but all they had at the time was white and red. I bought a quart of each. I used some of the red on the underside of the cab. I don't think the red and green would have gotten along very well.

The first test with lamp put it on the area you have chipped paint off do the 30 mins with temps I pointed out earlier.
When done and cooled back to room temp, check adhesion at the edge of the chip as solvent will rush out of broken paint.
It won't be 100% yet, but hands down, improvement.

If you dont have lamps put the car in the sun today longer; the excess solvents remain, the bigger the chance of breaking adhesion forever.

Thanks. Hopefully it will be able to hang in till Sunday. I'm going to try to pick up the infra-red lamp this evening. I can start on it Saturday but will have to leave fairly early. It's supposed to be warm and sunny on Sunday, so I will definitely put it outside then. It's going to be cloudy and cold all day today.

Just wanted to add that my buddy painted his 53 belair with a green color very similar to that, in a shopline and he told me it took 5 coats to cover, and it also involved a last minute trip for another quart.
I can't remember if I ended up with 4 or 5 coats. My first coat was a very light tack coat that really didn't cover anything.

I did notice that the later coats of base definitely had more gloss to them. This was probably the clue that I should have waited till the next day to shoot the clear. The surface of the base was completely dry to the touch and I thought waiting 45 minutes was giving it a little extra flash time.

I would have preferred to use a better paint, but the owner took until the day before I wanted to paint it to decide on a color. The Deltron was $285 a quart, and that seemed crazy for jambs and a firewall that's mostly covered up by a big sound insulation blanket. My friend's wife's ex-husband is a Matrix dealer, which I would have liked to try, but I didn't have time to track him down and order the paint. I think he works out of his garage and generally delivers all his orders in person. I had originally planned to paint it outside and had a deadline for a 60 degree day that we had, but I ended up doing it indoors because the warm shot got the bugs going again.

All of a sudden it got sunny out, so I ran up to the shop and pushed the cab outside. Surface temp was up to 78 degrees in five minutes. I'll rotate it 180 in about an hour and hope to get at least 1.5 hours of sun on the other side before it goes down behind the trees.
