Chad Sperry has a saying that Motobase covers like ink. The sky blue I used on the Duster would almost cover the spray out card in one coat.
Call Chad.Where do you guys order all these base coats from?
I suppose it depends on the color you choose, but Barry has posted that a top of the line clear may not be enough to save a cheap basecoat underneath. I’d rather play it safe and get a mid tier basecoat, just stay away from the entry level stuff like Omni, Nason, Limco, etc.I'm seriously looking at their classic color kits because I'll soon start on another 67 Camaro that is Tahoe Turquoise, and Urechem sells that. My plan is to buy their urethane base w/activator and use SPI clear over it. I restored my other 67 using DBC and SPI clear, but PPG is too expensive for me now. I have seen several show and daily drivers done with Urechem and the finish looks great especially on one show car that stands out in my mind that was done 5 years ago and looks like it was done yesterday.
My thinking is, and the pros here please correct me if I am wrong, that the clear's UV inhibitors will help protect the base.
Mike
Jake, I made La-
Ferrari Blue, Marina Blue and Nassau Blue but guys did not want to increase base line.

Mr TK, where do you buy this motobase? I have a buddy that lives in humble area. All I have down here is Tasco (ppg) and the closest one to me is 30 mins awayI have been using Motobase on completes and really like it. Covers very well and lays pretty flat.
Chad @autorodtechnoligies. They have been great and also carry SPI. I have a Tasco here, also. Been buying paint from them for over 30 years. Still the same manager. They are a great jobber, but DBC has gotten unaffordable, and I like motobase better.Mr TK, where do you buy this motobase? I have a buddy that lives in humble area. No, some companies will add a little Phallow blue to their black to make it look blacker wee add no other color. When we buy dye for the anodize line, the cheaper stuff is based off green, the more expensive is based off blue. I think that is why we keep getting green tints to anything we try here. Does that pertain to the black from SPI?
Ive mixed a dark blue before to spray a bike of mine. Used a blue black base to start with and added a really bright blue base worked out perfect for me. Wasn't the right way to mix the base using differnt basecoat manufactures. But worked.Good luck finding the blue almost black. We keep trying to mix ours since we cannot find any that dont look purple, or green or have funky metallics.
I just get the SPI itis of adding flake or candy concentrate to their products. That is why I was leaning towards more stages, but when the candy goes on slow and in multiple coats, it is going too far.Ive mixed a dark blue before to spray a bike of mine. Just curious how much is really high?Did paint prices go up a lot recently? Just got a quote for a gallon of Motobase and it seems really high. This was for a 1966 Mustang, Nightmist Blue.
