1960 IMPALA CONVERTIBLE BIG PROJECT

I need to buy one of those inline sanders. I use a da to knock down the uglies from the spread and then block, buts its still alot of work
Looking great!
It IS hard work. I've heard those air files (if that is what you're talking about) can do more harm than good if not very careful.
There are probably some efficiencies to be found but still a lot of time and sweat.

I too have heard them referenced as air files, or in line sanders. I have one, and use it to just knock down heavy filler. I used to use Dura Blocks to finish sand.

Now I use the best sanding block ever......

BLACK DIAMOND ! :)

I have a Hutchins Air File and use it mainly for finish sanding on large panels that may flex slightly.
Pretty much you have to just use the weight of the sander itself and not apply any extra pressure.

The guy who taught me the fundamentals always emphasized that no fancy tool beats the hand when it comes to blocking panels. . So far it has proven true

Lazy day today but still put some time in. I try to put no less than 1 hr per day into this car. Whether it's searching for parts in bed, texting or calling someone about parts, or actually working on the car. Minimum of 1hr per day. Eventually it will get done. I primered these parts. The rear valances were cut and sectioned to accommodate the 59 conti kit. Blocked and prepped. Also it's note worthy that, the glove box door had a nice dent, however the trim that covered the glove box was nearly immaculate...how did the dent happen....maybe someone at the plant in 1960 said "take this job and shove it" and threw the glove box across the shop??? Deleting all the dash trim, so maybe I could sell the trim to a purist on ebay..

You don't like it?

I don't use it to be honest, haven't touched it in 20 years. I tend to sand off more than needed and I get into the repeated application/removal process with a gallon of dust on the floor. :p So I have better luck using hand sanders that I can use a slow and methodical approach

That's kind of what in worried about as well

Which is exactly why mine gets very limited use in the finish sanding compacity only.

Put about 30 hours in the past week in the driver side quarter. Today I got it up to 180 grit and 2 wet coats of epoxy. Before that I mocked up the 5tt long cruiser skirt. The skirts have already been body worked and are in epoxy ready for scuff and color. Not really alot to look at but so far it's been only rage ultra, and spi epoxy. 30 hours. After a 40hour work week. I'm beat.
