A woman's project: 1968 Mustang Fastback Eleanor

LOL

Great progress guys! We can't wait to see her in person next week.

Ive said it many times. But you probably dont realize what posting up threads like this does for people.. For example, many home enthusiast may have never tackled cutting everything and re doing so things would fit.. Probably look for another hinge etc.. This shows how custom work is truly performed and that the only limitations are what exist in our minds.. Outstanding work guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hit the nail on the head!

I'm sorry for not updating before this.

The aftermarket fenders did not match the doors so Brian welded and than ground it down to get a better fit

After Lauren had a lot of sleepless nights she decided to use the hood I had for my Eleanor project.

I sprayed two coats of Slick Sand after epoxy priming and some body work

More block sanding

Lauren missed Eleanor so when she was down here she decided to block sand the hood.

Lauren and Aaron did not like the gap around the gas filler so I tightened it up.

I added a little filler and used a Tupperware B canister since it was about the same size as the gas cap as a sanding block

Those are the kind of detail touches that don't get noticed if they are done, but will get noticed if they are not!

I did not like the way the flares did not follow the shape of the wheel opening in the fender

I cut and than clamped it to the fender and when I had the shape I wanted I added a layer of fiberglass to the outside. Once it set up I removed it and added a couple of layers on the inside.

are the last set of pictures in the correct build thread?

Yes the original fenders had a lot of patches and also rust so the owner bought new fenders and the flares and rockers are from two different companies.

What are those flares and rockers made out of? Looks like plastic in the pictures.
Do you apply fiberglass matting over all the seams to prevent cracking?

They are made from fiberglass and I will bond them to fender but use fiberglass between the flare and rocker.

I never realized that the front fenders were flared on an Eleanor car. There's so much going on there that it's kind of hard to take it all in.
Like always Rusty, thanks for taking the time to share these builds, I really enjoy them.

Teaching threads. Rusty and Brian are great at teaching by sharing with us. I personally learn allot following their threads!!
